AIU Hosts University of Bergen (Norway) Partner Professor Visit
Professor Harry Solvang, from the Japanese Studies Program at the University of Bergen’s Faculty of Humanities, visited Akita International University on Tuesday, October 6, to meet with AIU students, faculty, and staff.
The University of Bergen and AIU have a long-standing, active student exchange program and Professor Solvang was particularly interested in AIU’s Japanese program. After meeting with AIU’s Japanese Language Program Head, he spent time obeserving a class to gain a better understanding of the language curriculum and pedagogy here.
He also went beyond the faculty level and met with University of Bergen students currently at AIU as well as AIU students who had returned from their study abroad at Bergen.
Even though short, such faculty visits from and to our partner universities are an essential part of strengthening our exchange relationships and helping both universities better understand each others’ students and curricular needs. We always welcome faculty and staff from our partners and as the fall foliage gives way to winter snows over the next few months, it is an ideal time to take advantage of Akita’s hot springs, hiking, skiing, and the first sake of winter.
