ANU students Join Illumination Festival in Shiraiwa! (J-CIP:A)

10 students from the Australian National University spent three days living with host families in Shiraiwa Community as part of the J-CIP:A program. They cooperated with the local people to prepare and execute their annual winter illumination festival Shiraiwa Tokasai.

Interacting with the rural elementary school students, experiencing an authentic Japanese culture and learning to speak the local Akita dialect must be the most memorable and exciting part of this program.

Experiencing “Hiburi Kamakura”, which is like fire juggling.

Singing the folk song “Donpan-Bushi” with the local community.
