Educational Outreach

English Village

English Village is an English training program for junior high and high school students. Students of AIU (graduate students, undergraduates, and international students) receive training from faculty in advance and serve as instructors to guide the participating students. From the 2022 academic year, we have resumed the in-person 3-day, 2-night training program and participants have been enjoying the opportunity to learn English in English in the global environment of Akita International University.

Junior High School & High School Partnership

AIU has an educational partnership agreement with Akita City Goshono Junior High School & High School, and our faculty and students regularly visit for mutual exchanges.

Teacher’s Seminar

We aim to improve practical, communication-centered English teaching skills that can be used in a post-coronavirus learning environment. We also help teachers gain confidence in their daily English instruction.

English Language Teaching Method Seminar & Workshop

Providing an online English teaching method training program to English teachers across Japan, we also held a course aimed at improving business communication skills with support from the U.S. Consulate in Sapporo.

Co-Sponsored by U.S. Embassy and U.S. Consulate General Sapporo

Japanese Language Education Practice

Utilizing the expertise of faculty members and graduate students in our Japanese Language program and the Japanese Language Teaching Practice program graduate school we contribute to local Japanese education, training of Japanese language learning support personnel, and building networks among supporters. From AY2022, we started a project to train regional Japanese language education specialists in Akita, Iwate, and Yamagata prefectures through collaboration within the Tohoku region in cooperation with Yamagata University, Iwate University, the Association for Regional Internationalization, and NPOs.

Open Lectures

We hold open lectures every year as part of our regional cooperation and contribution activities. In AY2022, the lectures were held both face-to-face and online and were attended on campus.
